Sanitary Sewer Program
|
 |
Sumpter Township had embarked on an ambitious Sewer Development Program with the objective of providing sanitary sewer facility to all its citizens.
METCO was hired to design and manage the construction of the program. The program was divided into three distinct phases, so as to accommodate the availability of funds.
Under Phase I, METCO has provided Construction Engineering Services including Resident Inspection and Contract Administration for the construction of approximately 2.2 miles of gravity sewer with sizes ranging from 10” – 26” and 800 lft. of 8” force main with pump station at total cost of $2.5 million.
Severe ground pollution was one of the major problems encountered during construction and METCO provided on-site solutions and also assisted the Township Administration in addressing the citizen complaints.
Phase II of this program consisted of approximately 9 miles of gravity sewers with sizes ranging from 10” – 18” with six (6) lift stations. The scope of services for METCO included:
· Topographic Survey · Negotiation with YUCCA for sewer capacity issue · Complete design and preparation of construction documents · Permit procurement from MDEQ.
METCO completed all the above tasks and construction of this project was put on ‘hold’ due to pending litigations issues with some members of the community.
Phase IIA consisted of 9.5 miles of low-pressure force main with two pump stations. Also included is installation of about 400 grinder pumps inside the residential homes. The unique feature of this project is the utilization directional drilling method to construct the force main and residential service leads from the grinder pumps.
This Phase is still under construction and METCO’s responsibilities include providing construction administration and field inspection services.
