City-Wide Watermain Replacement Program – City of Detroit

METCO was hired for the replacement of existing water main in the following areas of the City of Detroit:
· Schaefer Highway between 6 Mile and 7 Mile – 6000 lft. of 12” watermain
· Outer Drive between Lodge Freeway and
Schaefer Highway - 1500 lft. of 8”
watermain
· Grand River between Washington Boulevard
and Woodward – 800 lft. of 8” watermain
The primary requirement from the Owner is to maintain existing alignment of the water and to minimize the distribution of the existing system. So, extensive temporary water line requirement was incorporated in the design to comply with the requirements.
METCO’s design included performing topographic survey, coordination with other utility agencies, prepare construction documents including plans and specifications and procuring permit from MDEQ and Wayne County Public Works.
